Hampshire North County Standard

The Standard was dedicated at the County's 75th Jubilee Thanksgiving Service in Winchester Cathedral on June 22 1985.

At the hoist is the Trefoil for our Promise and Law, then comes the Hampshire Rose and Crown, the County badge.

Obliquely across the Standard are the words of our motto - BE PREPARED. From the centre of this flows a river for the many which rise in North Hampshire, such as the Itchen, Test and Loddon.

The symbols are: crossed swords, for the military establishments in the County; a Roman coin found at Silchester represents the people of the past; a chalice indicates our church affiliations; a fossil represents our chalk downs and a harrow alludes to the Harrow Way, the Hampshire section of the prehistoric trackway running between Dover and Somerset. Finally, the Baden and Powell lions at the fly are used with the permission of the Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, since the family home of the Founder Chief Scout and Olave the Chief Guide was at Pax Hill, in Bentley near Alton, within our County.

We are committed to ensuring children and young people who are in the Care of the Local Authority can share the opportunities that Girlguiding has to offer. If you would like any help in getting girls to join local units please contact us at info@girlguidinghn.org.uk and we will ensure a member of our team will support you with this.
